"Leaving on a Jet Plane" is a song written by John Denver and recorded by Peter, Paul, and Mary. In addition, various artists have recorded their own versions. In fact, the original title for the song was "Babe, I Hate to Go".

When Tandy locks himself in his mansion to avoid leaving Tucson in "Screw the Moon", he is invited by Carol to join them to sing around the campfire outside the cul-de-sac, as the group members have agreed to a truce. As Phil hears them singing, he leaves his mansion to come out, only to be tackled by Phil.

The song is played on the accordion by Mary Steenburgen.

Lyrics[]

He's blowing his horn

Already I'm so lonesome

I could cry

So kiss me and smile for me

Tell me that you'll wait for me

Hold me like you'll never let me go

'Cause I'm leavin' on a jet plane

Don't know when I'll be back again

Oh, babe, I hate to go

'Cause I'm leavin'

On a jet plane...
